The Roeliff Jansen Community Library’s annual BBQ and Silent Auction will be held at the Roe Jan Park again this year. At the Sunday afternoon August 1 event, area residents and visitors will enjoy barbecue by Kenny Preusser and music by a local group, and will be able to bid on many unique and interesting services and items at the silent auction. Sponsored by the library’s Capital Campaign, “BBQ, Boogie & Bid at the Park” is a fundraiser for the new building fund.
The BBQ will be served from noon till 3:30 pm. On the menu is pulled pork and barbecued chicken, grilled veggies, coleslaw, corn on the cob and potato salad. Dessert will be brownies made by members of the library’s Friends organization and Stewart’s ice cream. Seating will be available in the shed barn or diners can bring lawn chairs and blankets to spread out on the lawn
Among the items to be offered are at the silent auction are signed books by local authors, an original creation by famed sculptor Leon Smith, as well as art work, photography and ceramics by other local artists; an authentic Chinese dinner for six cooked in your home; a four week writer’s workshop for up to four people with Le Anne Schreiber, former deputy editor of the New York Times Book Review and author of two critically-acclaimed memoirs; four tickets to a Disney show on Broadway, a magnum of wine, antique area maps, a pair of stylish Wellie boots, and many other items and services
Tickets, $20 for adults and $10 for kids, will be available as of July 2 at the Roe Jan Community Library, B&G Wine and Gourmet in Hillsdale; the Copake Pharmacy; the Farmer’s Wife in Ancramdale and from members of the library Board of Trustees and Capital Campaign Steering Committee. Tickets will also be available at the door.
