Roe Jan Park Community Garden
1/2 mile south of the light in Hillsdale
June 1 at 5:30 pm
The Town of Hillsdale’s Green Solutions Committee, in cooperation with the Roeliff Jansen Park, will be hosting a series of free classes in Beginner Vegetable Gardening for all interested community members.
The classes, which start at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, will be held in the Community Garden at the Park, located on Rt. 22, approximately one mile south of the Hillsdale traffic light, across from the Roeliff Jansen Community Library. They will be conducted by Green Solutions Committee members Tom Carty and Willa Horton, both of whom have local gardening businesses and experience in teaching gardening.
“We are hoping to show people the great value of gardening at home”, Mr. Carty said. “There is no better tasting food than home-grown, and nothing better for both health and pocketbook.”
Ms. Horton said that the group will spend the first class learning about soil, fixing up the garden beds and making decisions on what the class should plant first. “We hope that the first few weekly classes will give the students the pleasure of planting crops that they like to eat and crops that will be fun to grow,” said Ms. Horton. “Everyone is welcome, there is no charge, and the rewards of the class will be bountiful.”
Anyone who is interested should call Tom Carty at 325-5260 for more information or to sign up.
