Write Your Heart Out: A Workshop with Claudia Ricci at Library

Claudia Ricci, writer and teacher, will present “Write Your Heart Out: A Workshop to Discover Yourself in Words and Meditation,” at the Roeliff Jansen Community Library, Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 10 am to 1 pm, with a short break for snacks and beverages.

The workshop is free.  Enrollment is limited to fifteen participants.  To register, please call Roeliff Jansen Community Library at (518) 325-4101.

Workshop participants should bring a favorite journal and pen or pencil.

Workshop Description:

“Write Your Heart Out” will lead participants through a series of simple meditative and inspirational exercises designed to help them write about their lives and things they love. Exercises such as breathing will be used because the goal is to help writers to write naturally, in the same way they breathe—letting thoughts, feelings, past experiences, words and images rise to the surface.

This workshop is not intended to teach the nuts and bolts of writing, but rather to encourage writers to discover their authentic voices, in part by reading their work aloud, and to take the fear out of writing.

Claudia Ricci, Ph.D., recently retired after many years as a professor at SUNY Albany. Her first novel Dreaming Maples was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and her short fiction has been published in numerous literary magazines. She was formerly a staff writer for The Wall Street Journal and a prize-winning reporter for The Chicago Sun Times.  She is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post.  A practitioner of yoga and meditation for many years, she started teaching “Write Your Heart Out” workshops in 2003 and began painting the same year.
