Local Collectors and Local Collections Exhibit:
Special Walk-Thru with Mike Fallon

On Sunday, September 23rd, at 2 pm, the Roeliff Jansen Historical Society proudly presents a special tour of the current exhibition: Local Collectors and Local Collections, by Mike Fallon and others who have contributed family collections to the exhibit. These collections, originally compiled to reflect personal interests and to mark meaningful events, now provide a significant and irreplaceable window into the past.

The RJHS exhibition brings together an eclectic array of collections compiled by residents of the Roe Jan area, foremost among them, Mike Fallon, owner of the famed Copake Auction House. Each collection presents an opportunity to learn about the history of the region through a wide variety of objects, including family albums and documents, scrapbooks, and memorabilia. While items on view provide a vivid glimpse into the life and personality of the collectors, they also tell the story of local communities and the surrounding region. On Sunday, September 23rd, Mike Fallon will tell the captivating backstories behind the many souvenirs, mementos, paintings, photographs and textiles he has put on view. In addition, other local collectors will share their recollections about objects they have also contributed to the show.

Founded in 1974, the Roeliff Jansen Historical Society serves the towns of Ancram, Copake, Gallatin, Hillsdale and Taghkanic. Through publication, ongoing research, a speaker series, and a multimedia archive, the Society documents and conserves local history – too easily lost. Its mission is to bring recognition to the stories, skills, and traditions of local folks, past and present.
