SUMMARY:The Musicians of Ma’alwyck
DESCRIPTION:The Musicians of Ma’alwyck will play at the Roeliff Jansen Community Library on Saturday\, August 31 at 5 pm.  The program will feature Russian and American music including Daniel Godfrey’s From a Dream of Russia for clarinet\, violin and piano.  It will also include Glinka’s Trio Pathetique and Rick Sowash’s Daweswood Suite\, music of Gliere and Maude Powell.. \nMusicians of Ma’alwyck is the chamber ensemble in residence at the Schuyler Mansion and at SUNY Schenectady. The ensemble\, celebrating its 20th year this season\, is known both for its historic programs and its creative combining of thematic materials. Founded in 1999\, the group specializes in music performed in America during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.  On August 31 the quartet will feature Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz\, Violin (founder and director of the group); Petia Kassarova\, Cello; Paul Green\, Clarinet; Noah Palmer\, Piano. \nGlinka is considered the father of Russian classical music. The 1832 Trio Pathetique is full of gorgeous melodies. Godfrey’s From a Dream of Russia\, for violin\, clarinet and piano is imaginative\, fun and highly creative; it captures the musical essence of Russia. Rich Sowash’s Daweswood Suite includes American folksong inspired melodies within a jazzy idiom. The program is rounded out with two shorter works\, the Gliere a glorious ballade for solo cello and piano\, and the Powell\, a beautiful transcription of a spiritual. \nThis concert is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Greene County Council on the Arts.
