SUMMARY:NorthWinds Bassoon Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:NorthWinds Bassoon Ensemble will play a concert at the Roeliff Jansen Community Library on Saturday\, September 7\, at 5 pm — A typhoon of bassoons! \nThe bassoonists of NorthWinds have found a cheerful and spirited platform for this unsung bass wind pipe. These players bring out the jaunty\, the moody\, the serene\, and the serious natures of the instrument in an accessible manner. The enthusiasm is infectious as the group performs and chats with the audience. What’s a double reed?  Wait\, it’s eight feet long? Contra? \nThe group has PhDs\, post graduate degrees\, and years of study with prestigious musicians; one of them has even left behind a distinguished career as an oboist and has come to see the light as a bassoonist.  Between the group they have toured Europe\, performed solos with major orchestras\, been part of Grammy nominated ensembles\, and of course\, trekked through the work-a-day world of the freelance musician. What’s really needed is a bit more fun now; and here it is. \nNorthWinds Ensemble is especially well suited to intimate settings such as the library in which the audience and performers have a moment to exchange thoughts as well as to listen to this lesser known beauty of the orchestra winds.  The ensemble includes bassoonists: John Douglas Ferrigno\, Karen Kelland\, Cornelia McGiver\, Nora Post. \nThis concert is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Greene County Council on the Arts.

SUMMARY:Roe Jan Community Library to Discuss Findings of Community Conversations
DESCRIPTION:The Roeliff Jansen Community Library will present and lead a discussion on the findings of the Community Conversations the library held in May and June\, as well as the next steps based on the findings. Residents of Ancram\, Copake\, and Hillsdale are invited to join the discussion on Saturday\, September 28 at 11 am at the library. The conversations provided an opportunity for participants to discuss what matters to them as members of the Roe Jan community and to better understand each other’s hopes\, concerns\, goals\, and what might make a difference in strengthening this community. \nEach conversation was guided by the same set of nine questions. Library Director Tammy Gaskell says\, “Though the conversation participants were diverse\, there were many commonalities to their hopes and their concerns. We are looking for additional input as well as support for the proposed next steps.” \nThe goal of the project is making the Roe Jan community stronger and helping groups within the community\, including the library\, work together more effectively.

SUMMARY:Habitat Presentation at Firehouse
DESCRIPTION:Columbia County Habitat for Humanity will make an important presentation about their unique home-building strategy on Saturday\, September 28 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the Hillsdale Firehouse. The event is hosted by the Hillsdale Housing Committee. \nBrenda Adams\, Executive Director of Columbia County Habitat\, and award-winning architect Dennis Wedlick\, will discuss their strategies for bringing super-green\, low-impact housing to historic villages and hamlets in Columbia County.
